Fast Endorses FTC Recommendations
In June, the US Federal Trade Commission recommended more informative labeling of paid links. Fast has now made changes to their AllTheWeb search engine accordingly. AllTheWeb now has a page about their search results.

Google Now Using RouteScience to Improve Connection
Google is now using RouteScience's PathControl product, which reroutes Google's traffic to the best server, which for the average doesn't really mean much. Both Google and RouteScience are backed by Sequoia Capital.

Overview of Google Answers
An article on the Christian Science Monitor about the Google Answers service. The article also mentions other similar services and the hazards of using them. Unless the question is very important (i.e. legal, medical, etc.), I see no reason not to trust Google's approved researchers (disclaimer: I am one of them).

Google tells Amazon Light to Cease and Desist Using Google's Design
Amazon Light is a new interface for searching Amazon, built with Amazon's web services. It sported a design almost exactly like Google's until Google asked them to cease and desist. There is a screenshot of the original layout on the Amazon Light link below.

Ask Jeeves Switches from Overture to Google
Ask Jeeves has reached a deal with Google to provide its sponsored links. These will come from Google's ad program, not their web search. Ask Jeeves said that the deal was purely a financial one. This has been yet another loss for pay-per-click search engine Overture. The switch won't happen until September 3rd.
